ekgWhat is an EKG Technician?

A Certified EKG Technician (CET) produces recording or electromotive variations in a patient's heart muscle, using an electrocardiograph machine, to provide data for the diagnosis of heart ailments. The CET may perform some or all of the following duties. However, they are not limited to just these responsibilities:

Operate and maintain electrocardiograph machines

Perform EKG’s, stress testing and Holter monitoring

Keys information into a machine or marks tracing to indicate positions of chest electrodes.

Edits and forwards final test results to attending physician for analysis

Schedules appointments and types doctor’s interpretations

Admission Requirements

The student must be at least 18 years of age or posses a High School Diploma or GED.

Student must have worked in the medical field and have documented work hours or possess a health care license or certification or be enrolled in a medical training program with proper documentation.

Medical Terminology with Anatomy and Physiology Review course or equivalent education courses.

Student must have a valid CPR certification card (for health care providers) or obtain one from Americus Medical Academy. We accept Ashi, American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

This course includes materials and a book. Certificate of completion is awarded at end of class

EKG Techs work in health care settings such as hospitals and clinics or agencies that staff medical professionals. This class is intended for healthcare providers. Student is awarded certificate of completion.
