Q: What is a CNA? What do CNAs do? Can I work as a HHA (Home Health Aide)?
A: A CNA is an assistant to the nurse. Job duties include bathing, dressing, feeding and helping patients to name a few. Once you become a certified nursing assistant you will be able to work as both a CNA and HHA (Home Health Aide) without further training. CNA's can be employed by Health Care Facilities, Nursing Homes, Rehabilitation Centers, Assisted Living Facilities and Home Health Care Agencies.
Q: Do I need a GED Or Highschool Diploma to take the prep course?
A: NO. If you are 18 years old or over you do not need a GED or Highschool Diploma.
Q: Does your class certify me a CNA?
A: No, only the State Of Florida can certify you as a CNA. We are a Test Prep Course and you will receive preparation to take the State Test exactly as the State is looking for the skills to be performed. You will need the proper preparation "step by step" of the skills in order to pass the State Exam. If you are not prepared and miss too many things in a skill you will fail. This is why our prep course is suggested so you will be ready and have all of the knowledge to pass the State Test Exam. Review times are available prior to your test date.
Q: Where do I test to become a CNA?
A: You may test right here with us. We test up to 6 days per week to accomodate our students. We assist our students in filling out the applications and getting you a test date. It is suggested you have your state test fees the first week of class if you plan to test quickly.You are welcome to test anywhere close to your home. See our enrollment specialist for details.
Q: What do you use for Training materials?We use anatomically correct nurse training manikins.We have training stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs for your use, hospital equipment and 4 hospital beds. We have 6 Online computer stations & much more.We occupy "3 FULL SIZE SUITES" totalling nearly 2,000 sq feet to train in. Our instructors prep you to do the skills the way the state tests.We offer you unlimited amounts of classroom training supplies at NO extra charge.
Q:Do you have FULL TIME office staff ready to help?
A:Yes! We have instructors and FULL time office staff available M- F from 9am to 6pm. Stop by anytime! Tours welcome.
Q: How do I hold my seat in the class? From The Florida Board Of Nursing: Q: What crimes or license discipline must be reported on the application? Q: Can a person obtain a certificate as a certified nursing assistant if he has a misdemeanor or felony crime on his record? Q: Do I have to report charges if I completed a period of probation and the charges were dismissed or closed? Q: How long is the background report good without needing a new one?

Q: What to bring to the prep course? What to wear?
A: Bring a notebook ,index cards, pen and highlighter. You are EXPECTED to have your supplies and be on time. Our dress code for CLASS is as follows: NO SHORTS, NO DRESSES. Pants must not allow under garmets to show. Shirts must have a sleeve and not expose the chest area. Closed toe shoes required (no open toe shoes/flip flops)You may also wear a nursing uniform if you wish. It is suggested that you purchase a uniform to wear for the State Test day and have a functional watch or pocket watch.
Q: What about tuition reimbursement?

Q: What about job placement?
A: We assist you with job placement & will do all we can to assist you in getting placed for employment .Just speak to an education specialist. Medical Prep Of PInellas, Inc. does not guarantee employment.
Q: How much are the State Fees to test? Who gets the money?
A: If you have lived in Florida the past 5 years, then the state test fees are $127 or $131 with Audio. This fee includes your FDLE background screening.
Out of state the test fees are $167 which includes an FBI background screening and fingerprinting. The finger printing must be done at www.fl.ibtfingerprint.com or by calling 1-800-528-1358.
Q: Tell me more about the State CNA Test?
A: The written section of the test is 60 questions multiple choice. It is taken here on our computers. You will also take a hands on clinical skills test. This is of the 21 skills that you learn in class. Three skills will be chosen for you by random to perform in addition to hand washing and indirect care. You will have a total of five skills to perform. You will be given a time and date to come and test and this will be completed in one day. You will know if you pass the same day.
Frequently Asked Questions and Answers Regarding Prior Criminal History and Disciplinary Actions
The Florida Board of Nursing receives numerous questions from applicants regarding prior criminal offenses. Following are the most frequently asked questions to assist applicants.
A: All convictions, guilty pleas and nolo contendere pleas must be reported, except for minor traffic violations not related to the use of drugs or alcohol. This includes misdemeanors, felonies, "driving while intoxicated (DWI)" and "driving under the influence "(DUI)." Crimes must be reported even if they are a suspended imposition of sentence. All prior or current disciplinary action against another professional license must be reported, whether it occurred in Florida or in another state or territory.
A: Each application is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The Board of Nursing considers the nature, severity, and recency of offenses, as well as rehabilitation and other factors. The Board cannot make a determination for approval or denial of certification without evaluating the entire application and supporting documentation.
A: Yes. Offenses must be reported to the Board even if the record is now considered closed.
A: Twelve (12) months.
